Jenny Rock, Resident in Counseling

Jenny’s pronouns are: She/Her

Jenny works with children, teens, and young adults who are going through a stressful time, and want to feel more confident and able to enjoy life.

Maybe you can’t stop worrying, feel down more often than you’d like, or keep getting caught in the same arguments. A loss or big change may have left you overwhelmed or unsure how to move forward. Jenny offers a warm, supportive place to work through what’s been hard and start feeling more like yourself.

Jenny is easy to talk to and brings a down to earth approach to getting to know you and what you want for your life. She helps you recognize your strengths and find practical ways to work through what’s been difficult. You can expect compassion, honest conversations, and gentle encouragement, with someone in your corner along the way.

Jenny has more than 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults, including 10 years in mental health. Her background spans residential treatment, crisis stabilization, and outpatient care. She holds a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University, focused on Trauma and Crisis Counseling, and a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from the University of Phoenix, focused on Family and Child Services. She is a Resident in Counseling in Virginia, working toward licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Therapy for Children & Teens

Jenny brings warmth and playfulness to her work with children. She takes a real interest in what matters to teens. That connection helps her get beyond “I don’t know” or “I’m fine” and work on what’s actually been hard.

An argument with a friend or a frustrating day at school can become something they work through together. Jenny helps kids look at what happened and what they could try next time, such as asking for help, saying what they need, or taking a break before an argument gets bigger.

Maybe your child has frequent outbursts, worries about everything, or comes home already upset. They might be withdrawing, losing interest in things they enjoy, or struggling with recent changes in the family. Jenny helps them work toward fewer arguments, an easier time with friends, and more confidence when things don’t go as planned.

Support for Young Adults

Jenny offers a space where you can talk honestly without feeling judged or needing to have it all together. She helps you sort through what matters to you, especially when other people’s expectations make it hard to hear your own voice. You might hold back in relationships to avoid upsetting someone, question your worth after a breakup, or feel torn between what you want and what others expect. Maybe you feel behind everyone else or say yes when you want to say no. School, work, relationships, or changes at home may be taking more out of you than you expected.

Jenny helps you understand these patterns and how they affect the way you see yourself. Together, you’ll work on trusting your judgment, speaking honestly about your needs, and making choices you feel good about, with more room to enjoy the life you’re building.

Trauma, Grief & Difficult Experiences

After something painful happens, you may not feel like yourself. Things that used to feel easy or safe might not anymore. You may feel on edge, struggle to trust people, or react to unexpected reminders. If you’re grieving, ordinary days can feel hard, especially when everyone else seems to have gone back to normal.

Jenny’s background in trauma and crisis counseling helps her support you through the painful parts while working on what would make daily life better. That might mean getting through waves of grief, feeling more comfortable around others, or coping when memories interrupt your day. If you’ve been hurting yourself, she responds without judgment and helps you find safer ways to manage the pain.

Together, you’ll work toward feeling more secure, reconnecting with people you care about, and making room for things you enjoy.

Approach to Therapy

Jenny wants therapy to feel like something you’re doing together. She listens to what you want to change, builds on what’s already working, and offers ideas to try. She’ll encourage you and gently challenge you when something keeps getting in the way. Her approach is person centered and strengths based, so your experiences and priorities guide the work. She draws from different approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to help you get through difficult moments, speak up for yourself, and respond in ways you feel better about afterward.

You’ll choose meaningful goals and look for everyday signs of progress: recovering more quickly after a hard day, having a conversation you’ve avoided, or doing something anxiety has kept you from. Together, you’ll talk through what worked, what didn’t, and what to try next.

Jenny provides therapy to kids, teens, and young adults at our office in Richmond, VA, and offers online counseling across Virginia.
